Lusi Lu is part of #TheGalleryProject. #TheGalleryProject includes artworks from 47 artists from 27 different countries. Each work reflects a unique perspective and as a whole, the exhibition series refuses to present a standardized narrative. Rather, it becomes clear that being queer means something different to each artist, whether sexually, politically, or aesthetically.

Each artist represented in the exhibition has developed their own strategies for coping with their lived realities and addressing (or not addressing) them in their art. The works displays sex, fragility, anger, courage, hope, nihilism, strength, fear, and beauty.

About the artist:

Born in 1983. Lives in Prague, Czech Republic.

Exhibited her artworks in Czech Republic, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Italy and Germany.

Influenced by art nouveau, art deco and cubism.

Portrays almost exclusively feminine characters which always somehow deviates from generally accepted cultural construct of normativity and placing them in an abstract ornamental world with special attributes.

Using combination of techniques: gel, lacquer, acrylic or ink pens on hard paper or canvas and selective photo-colorization. All work is handmade and each image is unique and original.

Working also as a tour guide in Peru for Czech travel agency Alvarez and as an anthropologist; currently preparing herself for anthropological doctorate studies in Peru.

About the artwork:

I am always working with the concept of „normality“ – what is and isn’t considered „normal“ and why – especially when it comes to the human body.” I am trying to demonstrate, that “normality” and “beauty” are only constructs without any incorporated universal “truth”, so it is actually totally irrelevant what others think, and life is too short to waste energy pretending to be someone you are not, trying to fit into some made up artificial norm.

Me personally, I am particularly inspired by curvy women who, in my opinion, exude strong sexual energy.

My pictures are portraying all different kinds of women and also me in different phases of my life. Each one of these women has different kinds of attributes and forms; being fat, thin, monogamous, promiscuous, masculine, feminine, black, white, heterosexual, pansexual, traditional, punk… whatever… and no matter what might be considered “normal” or “acceptable” in their society, they should be exactly the way they want to be – if they feel good about themselves, because that’s the only thing that really matters.
